District 7 Participatory Budgeting with Abreu's Office

Participatory budgeting is coming to our district! Participatory budgeting is a democratic process in which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. Participatory budgeting gives community members decision-making power over $1 million dollars on an annual basis and the ability to directly impact the budgeting process.

Participatory budgeting funds physical infrastructure projects that benefit the public, such as local improvements to schools, parks, libraries, public housing, streets, and other public spaces. The projects must cost at least $50,000 and have a lifespan of at least 5 years. This year, NYC Council Member Shaun Abreu's office is participating, and they want to hear community ideas on how to spend $1 million.

NYC Council Member Shaun Abreu's office is holding neighborhood assemblies for members of the community to brainstorm, discuss, and propose participatory budgeting projects. They are:

  • October 11, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Hamilton Grange Library (503 W 145th St.); and

  • October 18, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Columbia University, TBD room.
