While the New York City Department of Sanitation will pick up your Christmas tree from the sidewalk between Thursday, January 6, 2022 through Saturday, January 15, 2022, you can also drop your tree at a nearby site for Mulchfest 2022!
According to Patch.com, "Mulchfest 2022" runs from Dec. 26, 2021 to Jan. 9, 2022. It includes tree drop-off sites around Manhattan, where the Parks Department will take each tree and break it into wood chips to nourish city parks. A few of the sites also offer free mulch for New Yorkers to take home and nourish their own gardens! Bring your own bag to take free mulch home with you.
The closest Mulchfest site to Hamilton Terrace is at Jackie Robinson Park, at 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue. It is open from 10 am to 2 pm. This site is drop--off only.
No matter where you drop your tree, the sidewalk or a Mulchfest site, remember to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, stands and plastic bags from your tree.
