Juneteenth is a day of celebration, taking place on June 19th every year. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. On June 19, 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. As of 2021, Juneteenth is now officially a U.S., NYS, and NYC holiday!
